Learn to Row in Rochester NY

2012 Learn to row
Maybe you’ve seen rowing in the Olympics, spotted area crew teams racing on the Genesee River and Erie Canal, or been entranced by the sight of a single sculler gliding peacefully over the water, and thought “That looks like fun. I wonder what’s involved.”

Rowing is one of the fastest growing sports in the country
It’s a low-impact sport that uses all the major muscle groups, increases cardio fitness, strengthens the core, back, legs and arms, and is kind to your joints.

Adults of any age or athletic ability can learn to row, and keep rowing as they age
Once you've learned the basics, you can set your own goals - be as relaxed or competitive as you want, row in an organized program or go out alone.

Rochester has some of the best rowing water in the country
Our boathouse has easy access to both the Genesee River and Erie Canal, both great waterways for rowing.

Four ways to try out rowing

Attend National Learn To Row Day, held every year on the first Saturday of June. This is an easy no-commitment way to get a taste of what rowing is like. It’s FREE, but we ask that you please email info@geneseerowingclub.com to let us know you’re coming, so we have enough instructors and experienced rowers on hand to help you.

Take an on-water Learn To Row Class (Spring, Summer, and Fall sessions, on various days/times). Each session is 10 classes, 3 days/week. Students learn the technique and teamwork required for efficient rowing. Learn to Row is suitable for various fitness levels. After completing a Learn to Row session, you will be ready to try Experienced Rowing or Sculling.

Take Indoor Rowing Lessons (November, January, and February sessions, on various days/times). The indoor rowing tanks are a great place to learn some technique and improve your strength, flexibility, and endurance, in order to get a head start before on the water Learn to Row Class.

Get your organization to sponsor a Corporate Challenge Boat in the Head of the Genesee Regatta. Get a team of eight or nine together by early September.  We'll teach you to row and you'll compete as a team at the Head of the Genesee Regatta in October.  For more information, contact info@geneseerowingclub.com.

We're looking forward to meeting you!
