Experienced Rowing

Our Experienced Rowing classes are the backbone of our sweep rowing programming.    Our daytime and evening classes welcome rowers of all abilities, ranging from recent Novice graduates to those who have rowed for several years.   During Spring Session all of our experienced sweep rowers practice together through mid-May.  For the summer we offer both Experienced Rowing and Competitive Rowing.

We challenge our experienced rowers in a relaxed atmosphere with a carefully designed roadmap for personal development.  With the unifying focus on each individual’s experience, our participants are assigned to boats for each practice in two distinct ways.  When we fill boats with similarly skilled individuals we provide access to appropriate instruction and drills for each skill level.  We also provide the opportunity to row with groups of different experiences, speeding the development of our newest rowers.

Through the duration of each six week training block, rowers are exposed to principles of training; drills designed to familiarize rowers with appropriate rowing technique; occasional opportunities to practice racing, either in class or at local regattas; and occasional exposure to sculling boats.  Additional racing opportunities at away regattas for GRC members may be available; please contact the Rowing Director for more information.

Participants need to complete an on-the-water Learn to Row and spend time on our Intermediate Team. You will work along side our coaches to decide when it's appropriate to advance to Experienced Rowing.

2017 Classes

Please note that participation will be capped for each class time. Registration will be on a first come/first serve basis.  While GRC membership is not required to participate, it is required for rowers who would like to race in regattas.  All rowers participating in GRC programming or representing GRC at regattas must be US Rowing members and sign the US Rowing waiver. This includes both members and nonmembers. You may initiate/renew your membership in US Rowing and sign the waiver here. If you are a new US Rowing member, select Join under Individuals. If you are already a member select the appropriate link from the Members drop down menu under Individuals.
